Ph(i)ew. A review of the Nokia 808 as a camera with its unique pixel oversampling technology and 41MP sensor.

There are inexpensive compact cameras that offer more photographer-friendly features than the 808, but as a cameraphone, the Nokia blows its competition out of the water, and significantly narrows the gap between dedicated cameras and portable communications devices to the point where ultimate convergence seems all but inevitable (and probably sooner than some commentators had realised).

Technological convergence <3

8bitfuture:

New technology allows physical buttons to rise from a touchscreen.

The Tactile Layer technology created by Tactus Technology uses microfluidics to allow physical buttons or shapes to rise up out of a touch screen. The technology adds no further thickness to the screen as it replaces a layer of traditional touchscreen display stacks.

Check out the video, it looks almost unbelieveable! The best part is that this isn’t just a one-off prototype in a lab, but a demonstration Android Tablet using a technique that’s almost ready for mass production. The company says the technology will be available in tablets, phones, and other mobile devices from 2013.

Despite early doubts, the iPad has proven to be an incredibly valuable tool for education, both in the classroom and in homes around America. By offering students, from elementary school all the way up to the university level, the chance to do some hands-on learning, exploring, and sometimes even educational gaming, the device makes education fun and exciting, something that isn’t always easy to do.

With schools falling behind in math and science education and companies unable to find enough qualified professionals to fill jobs in science and technology fields, pushing STEM education is more important than ever. Educators and parents can help get kids interested and perhaps even hooked on STEM no matter their age with the help of the iPad and the myriad great educational applications it offers. Here, we share some of the best applications for STEM education, and with selections that work for students of all ages and abilities, you’re bound to find something that’s the perfect companion to any STEM lesson.

We walked into an empty room that once was the metal shop. It was perfect. I could imagine it having tools and materials and workbenches. I could imagine groups of curious kids being active, social, and mobile. She said her students would be very happy. “They never get asked to create anything,” she told me.”

-
Maker Faire and Science Education: American kids should be building rockets and robots, not taking standardized tests. - Slate Magazine
